2024 NOBEL LAUREATE
PHYSIOLOGY OR MEDICINE
Gary Ruvkun, PhD
Professor of Genetics
Harvard Medical School
Department of Molecular Biology
Massachusetts General Hospital
Dr. Ruvkun was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, together with Victor Ambros, for discovering microRNAs and revealing how these small RNA molecules regulate gene activity. Their pioneering work revealed an entirely new mechanism for controlling gene activity, and subsequent discoveries helped establish microRNAs as fundamental regulators of gene expression across the animal kingdom.
Over the course of his career, Dr. Ruvkun’s research has extended well beyond microRNA. His laboratory has made important discoveries in the genetics of aging, metabolism and insulin signaling. His contributions have been recognized with many of science’s highest honors, including the Wolf Prize in Medicine, the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research, the Canada Gairdner International Award and the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences.
We are honored to have Dr. Ruvkun join the Cure community and look forward to hearing his perspective on genetics, metabolism, aging and microRNA—and where these areas of science may lead next.
Dr. Ruvkun follows Nobel Laureate Carol Greider, who joined us as the keynote speaker at Cure Ventures’ 2025 Annual General Meeting and shared her insights into telomeres, aging and disease.
Bringing together leading scientists, entrepreneurs and investors is an important part of Cure’s annual meeting, and we are delighted to continue that tradition with Dr. Ruvkun this November.
